“Electronic Workplace Surveillance and Performance” by Tara S. Behrend
Abstract: Electronic surveillance affects nearly all workers, and in many cases the effects on stress, performance, and work behavior are unknown. The technologies involved range from video monitoring to location tracking and automated email scanning, and these technologies can be deployed for many diverse reasons. In this talk, I will describe the results from a meta-analysis of nearly 100 studies that have manipulated some form of surveillance, and outline some implications. I will also share new data describing how attitudes toward surveillance have changed post-pandemic.
